Frank Lloyd Wright-ish

I never really thought about the beauty of the simple lines and open spaces that were used in the homes designed by the famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright until recently, when the company that my husband and I work with (Lindal Cedar Homes) began designing homes with the permission of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and two FLW architecture-trained architects authorized to design these homes.  Now I'm a huge fan.  By repositioning walls to open rooms, raising ceilings, enlarging bathrooms and closets we bring a new look to a timeless design. (See  https://lindal.com/dealer/trianglecedarhomes). We are already working on a few designs that promise to be outstanding.  There are already several great examples of how some of the Lindal Cedar Homes Dealers have remained true to the original designs by FLW (see below).

As a Realtor, I think that it is important to understand construction, architecture, use of space, and land to assist my clients in making choices that will work for them.  Contemporary designs have made a huge resurgence in popularity and yet there are few homes available with this type of design and focus.  As a consequence people are designing and building their own dream homes.  Interior spaces can be customized to reflect the owners' personalities and tastes. New materials and high tech advances reflect our ability to reduce waste, costs, and depletion of natural resources while being energy efficient, and low maintenance.  New building systems, stronger seals, lighter, better, stronger, bigger, and innovative advances in the building industry meld the homes of tomorrow with the homes of yesterday.  It is the ideal marriage of technology and design.

(The photo on the left shows the slight variation of the original Frank Lloyd Wright design that brings into consideration some of the energy efficiencies that the client focused on, the ease of maintenance, and additional windows.)

If you are interested in reading more, here is a link that discusses further:  https://lindal.com/floor-plans/usonian-houses/  along with floor plans and a look at the exteriors. There is an overview of the philosophy of the horizontal designs, materials, and integration of nature in the living spaces.

Custom built homes are not for everyone, but when someone wants cutting edge styles (or any style for that matter) and wants to create something that is truly their own, it is often their best choice.  Cost is a factor of course, but by using an authorized designer one can save thousands of dollars and a great deal of time.
